50 minutesLicensed in CAAccepting new patients

Situations I work with.

Each one says who comes to a session and how long it lasts. I set the pace with you, and there is no set number of sessions.

Blended family

For a new stepfamily working out roles, rules and loyalties. Sessions start with the couple and bring the children in when everyone is ready.

  • Who comes: the couple first, then the children for some sessions

  • How long: 50 minutes for the couple, 75 when the children come

  • What this is not: a way to decide who is right

How fees work

Separation and divorce

For parents and children living through a separation, and for two households trying to settle on one set of rules. Each person is seen at their own pace.

  • Who comes: one parent, each parent in turn, or a child with one parent

  • How long: 50 minutes

  • What this is not: mediation, a custody evaluation or a letter for court

Caring for an aging parent

For siblings and parents sharing a parent's care, and for the teens who live through it. We make room for each person to say what they can and cannot do.

  • Who comes: adult children, a parent if they wish, sometimes a teen

  • How long: 75 minutes for the family, 50 for one person

  • What this is not: care planning or medical advice, which a doctor or social worker gives

How fees work
Two women hold hands while talking in black chairs beside a plant

A teen who has gone quiet

For a teen who has stopped talking and parents who do not know how to reach them. Before the first session I explain what stays private and what parents hear.

  • Who comes: the teen, the parents, or everyone together

  • How long: 50 minutes

  • What this is not: a place where a teen is made to talk

How fees work
A woman on a sofa gestures as she talks to a woman taking notes in a black chair

Parent sessions

For a parent who wants a place of their own while the family is under strain. We talk about what you are carrying and what you want to try at home.

  • Who comes: one or both parents, without the children

  • How long: 50 minutes

  • What this is not: a parenting class or a diagnosis of your child

What families say about the room.

How it feels to sit down together.

  • “Nobody rushed me. I was allowed to say I did not know my place in the house, and she took that seriously.”

    Rizwan A.Stepparent
  • “She explained what stays private and what does not before my son said a word. He noticed, and so did I.”

    Katja W.Parent
  • “My sister and I disagree about our mother's care. The room was calm enough for us to say so out loud.”
